You should apply for every benefit that you think you may need.
When your application arrives the County Assistance Office will look at your income and tell you what Health and Human Services you can receive.

How long will it take for my application to be processed?
It should not take longer than 45 days if all necessary documentation needed to determine your eligibility for the Medical Assistance program is given to the county assistance office.
What must I verify?
All financial (income and resources) information given on your application must be verified. Resources such as life insurance, burial reserves, and real property need to be verified.
What happens to my income while I'm in a nursing facility (or other long term care type of facility)?
Your monthly income would go toward the cost of nursing facility care, less an allowance for personal needs. This contribution helps pay the cost of your care. The state would pay the difference between your income and the actual cost of care.
Is there a limit on the amount of resources I can have?
Yes, the limit is $2400.
Do I have to sell my house?
No, the home that was your personal residence prior to entering a nursing facility is an exempt resource if you indicate in writing that you intend to return to the home even if you are not physically able to do so.
